Our Score

The Lowlands Blanket is hard to categorize in some respects.

Calling it a blanket almost undervalues its performance. In reality, the Lowlands is something of a cross between a blanket, a tarp, and a ground cover.

Its topside is waterproof yet still comfortable to sit on, and the bottom side of it is tough and durable to handle rougher outdoor terrain.

It repels dirt and pet hair and is very easy to wash.

  • The underside forms a Hydrobarrier which is a waterproof layer preventing any moisture from the ground beneath it from getting things wet and uncomfortable
  • Repels dirt and pet hair so a quick shake after your four-legged friends have laid on it will be enough to get it clean again
  • Machine washable so you can simply put the Lowlands Blanket in the washing machine with your other laundry for easy and convenient deep cleaning

More on the Yeti Lowlands Blanket

High-Quality Build

Yeti are known for their high-quality outdoor products.

With that in mind, it should come as no surprise that the Lowlands Blanket is made to extremely high specifications.

It is comfortable, tough, practical, and convenient so you couldn’t really ask for much more from this ultra-comfortable blanket.

Its build quality means that this Yeti blanket will likely last you for a long time.

Resistant To Pet Hair and Easy To Clean

Dog owners who like heading out into the wild with their pets will get some real benefit from the Lowlands Blanket.

The Lowlands has been designed to repel dirt and pet hair meaning it makes for a great seat cover for your car after a hike with your dog.

As it is waterproof too, it can offer good levels of protection from your wet dog if they like to take a quick dip while out and about.

While it is comfortable for your dog to rest on as you travel home, it has been made to be tough too, so dog claws pose no threat and it can simply be thrown in your washing machine when you get home for a thorough clean.

Waterproof Base AND Top

The underside of the Lowlands Blanket is referred to (by Yeti) as a Hydrobarrier.

It has tarp-like properties in that it forms a waterproof layer between you and the ground beneath.

This is particularly useful if you want to take a break during your adventure but the ground is wet. With the Lowlands Blanket, you can lay it down on the wet ground and you have a waterproof picnic blanket that won’t let any water seep up from the ground onto where you are sitting.

Another bonus of this barrier is that if any moisture were to make it through the softer layer on the top side of the blanket, it won’t be able to make it through to whatever is underneath. If you are using the Lowlands as a car seat cover to protect them from your wet dog, this will make sure everything stays clean and dry.

The soft top side of the Lowlands Blanket is water-resistant which makes water bead and roll off your blanket too.

Fabric Loops To Stake It Down

Yeti like to go beyond what you might expect each one of their products to have.

The Lowlands Blanket has fabric loops on each of its corners which can be used to stake the blanket down to the ground.

This can be useful if you want to use it as a picnic blanket with your family and your kids and dogs will be running on and off the blanket and you want to keep it flat.

It is little features like this that make the Lowlands Blanket an extra cool item to add to your outdoor gear.

Very Nice Carry Bag

The Lowlands Blanket comes with its own carry bag which not only looks cool but also makes it extremely easy to carry your blanket around with you on your travels.

The blanket itself easily fits inside the carry bag when folded so it’s another useful way of keeping any dirt or debris that may be on your blanket contained in the bag and not all over your kit bag or car. As mentioned previously, the Lowlands repels dirt but it’s always a bonus to be extra cautious when it comes to keeping your stuff clean.

Loved By Those Who Own It

Yeti Lowlands is a highly protective and extremely well-made outdoor blanket that fits with whatever outdoor activity you love to do.

Current owners of the Lowlands Blanket have been sharing their thoughts on it for a while.

The vast majority of these are very positive reviews with it scoring 4.8 out of 5 from 511 individual customer reviews on the Yeti website.

Some owners say they use the blanket as extra insulation in their tent when camping, while others have taken it to various outdoor events to use as somewhere to sit on while the ground is wet or muddy.

One owner even says they use it for their 9-month old baby to play on as if they spill anything on it, the liquid simply beads and rolls off.

As with any product, there are always some owners who aren’t completely satisfied with a couple saying the price is too high and it wasn’t as comfortable as they had hoped.

However, if you look at how many people love this thing, it’s likely that these more negative reviews are from people who have a strict list of expectations that they want to be met and are only completely satisfied with a very small number of products.

Comes in Multiple Colors

When first released, the Lowlands Blanket was only available in two colors – Fireside Red and Smoke Blue.

Yeti then went on to release a third colorRiver Green although this isn’t currently available directly from Yeti.

It is worth noting at this point that the Lowlands Blanket is only available in one size of 55” × 78” when unfolded so you get the same size blanket regardless of which color option you choose.

Price

As always, the price tends to be the final deciding factor as to whether you buy something or not.

The Lowlands Blanket comes with a price tag of $200.

This might seem like fa lot of money to spend on what some would call a simple picnic blanket, but the Lowlands is way more than that.

While it is true that you can get a standard picnic blanket for just a few dollars – it is unlikely you would find a blanket that is super soft, ultra-durable, waterproof, and as versatile as this one for that kind of price.

It can comfortably handle the rigors of outdoor life such as muddy ground, sudden rain showers, picnics, an outdoor concert, or other outdoor activities.

It is safe to machine wash too which makes it very practical which is another reason it earns its hefty price tag.

Final thoughts on the Yeti Lowlands Blanket

The Lowlands Blanket is a superb blanket for outdoor use.

It can keep your stuff dry while you enjoy some downtime on your adventures, it has a waterproof utility layer in the form of Yeti’s Hydrobarrier, it comes with its own carrying case and is safe to machine wash.

The Lowlands Blanket is more than just the best picnic blanket out there, it is a highly protective and extremely well-made outdoor blanket that can deal with whatever outdoor activity you love to do.
