An Offshore Grand Slam is defined by the International Game Fish Association as any three of the following caught in the same 24-hour period:
- Billfish species (Atlantic blue marlin, Pacific blue marlin, striped marlin, black marlin, white marlin, sailfish, swordfish, spearfish)
- Dolphinfish (mahi mahi, dorado)
- Tuna species (bluefin tuna, dogtooth tuna, albacore, yellowfin tuna, etc.)
- Wahoo
All up there have been about 70 offshore grand slams registered with the IGFA. The most recent at the time of writing was registered on Jan 24, 2023, by angler Bob Kurz, who caught a blue marlin, a dolphinfish, and a yellowfin tuna off Piñas Bay in Panama.
In terms of composition, it is probably the dolphinfish that is the most common capture in an Offshore Grand Slam, followed by the wahoo with a billfish of some sort making up the third leg.
Catches have to be logged and registered according to IGFA rules to count as an official Offshore Grand Slam.
