Spencer Durrant is an outdoor writer and journalist with a focus on fly fishing. He has written for a range of publications, including Hatch Magazine, American Angler, and Trout Magazine.Spencer is also the author of Learning to Fly Fish: 101 Tips for the Beginner Fly Fisher, a comprehensive guide for those new to the sport.
In addition to his writing, Spencer is the founder of Spencer Durrant Outdoors, a modern sporting journal that covers hunting, backpacking, camping, and fly fishing. The journal aims to provide practical advice and inspiration for those who define their lives by what they do outdoors.
Spencer's formative years were spent living in farms and orchards in Utah and he is the author of the novel Learning to Fly.
He is a member of the Outdoor Writers Association of America, and is a part-owner of Trout Life, a Colorado-based fly fishing apparel company.
For several years, Spencer wrote the Trout Bum column for Utah’s Standard-Examiner, as well as a monthly column for KSL.com, in addition to a bi-weekly column entitled The Cutthroat Chronicles for Fishwest.
He contributes regularly to the Orvis Fly Fishing Blog, Hatch Magazine, and On The Fly Magazine.
